Sticky: Whisper - Team Positions

 << < 1 2 3 4 5 6 > >>

Please post all port-folios and applications in this thread.

Generally, everyone here at Susurration.net is welcome to discuss ideas for what sort of game they'd like to see, and everyone is welcome to create media for Whisper to use, we're not declining work if it's of a quality standard. However, those who wish greater highlight in work, and will be more dedicated and central to working with Whisper will apply here for a voluntary* Whisper position.

Programming --available--

Knowledge of C++, C#, etc. can help Whisper go a long way for game development. We're looking for keen coders who are either familiar with, or interested in, using XNA Game Studio for creating projects to be launched onto the Xbox 360's Community Games section. A port-folio of past-work is a bonus to showcase. We're really just looking for people who can actually produce something at the end of the day, so if you haven't anything to show, just make something before applying to show off to us.

Past experience of creating games for XNA is a bonus.

3D Modeler --available--

Knowledge of Maya, 3D Studio Max, or whatever 3D rendering software you're used to is required. Examples of your model-work is required as we need to see what you can do. For the most part, a lot of your work won't necessarily be rendered in-game as a 3D object, but are more likely to be used as either a 2D graphic for Susurration.net, or a Whisper game. We're primarily designing games for Flash and XNA at the moment, and neither require all that much 3D work. However, if your abilities are well within the reaches of creating complex 3D environments or characters, we'll come to you first.

(3D Animator/Rigger --available--

As 3D Modeling does not necessarily imply that you'll be able to animate bones, and make for a convincing animation in 3D, we have this role available to anyone interested and able to take a mesh, and make it dance. This role can be combined and cross-over with the 3D Modeling role, so don't feel as though you are required to stay solely to the animation side of things.

Artist --available--

As an Artist, your job will be use your great eyesight, and flexible artistic limbs to create textures, banners, avatars, UI layouts, concept art, character design, sprites, and occasionally rub Sarsion's feet. You should be able to have full artistic use of your own styles, but you must be able to work in harmony with the other Artists, lest Sarsion will get angry, and will have to send his fleet of conger eels, dolphins and sharks to "settle" the situation. Examples of your work are required for when you start applying for the position.

Past experience of being an Artist is a plus.

Web-Team --closed--

As a web-team member, your job will be to help weave the whispering web. CAVX will have full command over you, and Sarsion will be tempted to tell you what to do, but CAVX will go tell him to tend to his Artists. He may require you to help him with:

*Front-End development - tweaking, and improving the look of Susurration.Net
*UI - User Interface; making navigation easier.
*Site features - either taking on-board Community-suggested ideas, or helping suggest new features yourself. A prototype of each well-received suggestion is often required to show it can be done.
*Anything else CAVX might want you to do - boundless adventure.

Past experience of being on a Web-Team is a plus.

Comic Artist/Flash Animator (Comics, Flash Animations) --available--

Whilst not a position that's required ASAP, it's definitely an avenue we want to explore for Susurration.net. Style must remain consistent, and there should include no vulgar scenes, language or plotlines.

For Comics - You may choose to either have the linear story of a graphic novel, or a one-off panel-comic short. You may choose to use Whisper characters, but they must not be potrayed in a way that derives from their in-game personalities and attributes. You're quite welcome to create your own protagonists and antagonists. Your comic art style may range from stick-figures to full-blown work.

For Flash Animations - You may choose to either to have an episodic series, or a one-off lulz short. You may choose to use Whisper characters, but they must not be potrayed in a way that derives from their in-game personalities and attributes. You're quite welcome to create your own protagonists and antagonists. Your comic art style may range from stick-figures to full-blown work.

I can't commit full time, but I would like to apply for the spider one. I'm still learning lots of front end web development but I have an HTML editor. What I need to learn is Javascript. I'm sure I could run through whatever I write with CAVX. I have actually build a website. It's basic, and still being updated. I can build more if you want. The website was build to be a support site for my group

I would love to help you guys out, and I also think this a great way for me to expand my knowledge of HTML/CSS/JS.

Also sending you a PM, John...

That's pretty hawt. If you can keep throwing stuff out like this, I'd say that we'd love to have you making comix for us. So, if you can make your final version of this, and show it to us, we're more than likely going to take you onboard.

I'm getting a dual major in web tech and programming. I'd be glad to lend some hands once I start taking classes. Taking PHP and HML class this summer, with a Basic Flash class in the Fall. Next Flash will be a gaming oriented AS class.

I would like to Apply for the position of Spider. Over the last few months, I have tended to the creation and maintenance of blackwaterops.net. Almost everything you see has either been created or modified by either myself or A Baked Grunt (An other member of the BWO WebTeam).

I am quite experienced in HTML, CSS and PHP, and I know a bit about Javascript. If you go to Blackwaterops.net, you will see an "Xbox LIVE Friendslist" link in the NavBar. It is basically the Bungie.net friendslist, modified with javascript to function correctly on a vBulletin forum. You will have to be signed in to your BWO.net account and Windows Live account in order to access it.

I also have exensive knowledge of FTP and CHMODing. Also, if there is a problem that I can't fix, or a feature that I can't perfect, I have the necessary contacts and brainpower to get the job done. Be it by internet research, or by asking a genious friend.

I hope you all consider my application and overlook the fact that I started every paragraph with the letter "I". :3

Hi mom!
It looks like you have some nice credentials! :3
At the moment, I'm not really in need of any Spiders. I can tackle most of the site's needs at the moment. Your listed skills would be great for the site if the need ever does arise to turn web guy into web team, so I will definitely keep you in mind if it gets beyond my sole capacity.

Sounds good, boss. I am always willing if you do need any assistance or even if you just want to talk about ladies and stuff.

Although, how do you feel about Xbox LIVE Avatars in profiles?

Are you referring to gamercard displays in profiles (which we already technically have), or XBL avatars as Whisper avatars? Because if it's the latter, I don't think the avatars come that large.

No no, I mean the little avatars (The ones you can dress and things) to appear on your profile, or indeed the option to use them as your Whisper Avatar, as they can be resized to fit the postbits.

Myself and CAVX have discussed this before, and we both feel that the XBL Avatars are cool and fun, but they have their place, and that place is on the Xbox.com forums and wherever else wants to utilise them to suit their website's feel. We personally do not feel they would suit Whisper.

Regardless of that, it doesn't take much more than a couple clicks on the displayed Gamertag to check out an Avatar. Heck, some Avatars are shown in the Gamerpics.
