A video to let you realize LIFE as a gamer and LIFE as a real person.
I suggest watching all the way through. As much as the initial points make perfect sense, the points brought up towards the end are even more important.
Having realized the points made in this video a short time ago (having practiced the mistakes noted myself), I can safely say that there really does need to be balance. |

Very touching. Almost shed a tear in my eye. Great job. Just want to clarify that this was done by Patriciojose, not me.
I also want to point out that this video is specifically targeted at those who have found themselves addicted to video games. I was discussing earlier with a friend about the connotations of this video, who felt that they disagreed because they didn't feel like they were missing out on anything, and I really want to make it very clear that this is targeted at those who are dimly aware of actually missing out on things, such as love, real-close-contact friendship, fresh air and a bit of exercise.
But I'm aware that people have already got the balance in their life that suits them fine, which is perfectly fine, but just make sure that it doesn't interfere with your life. |

I thought the video was a bit cringeworthy I did :l
even though I used to be addicted to videogames, but that was a gradual change gone by long ago. In one way games both ruined my life yet saved it at the same time. Had I never done gaming I think my life and personality might have been very different to the worse, due to the restraint of only gettign to know local people. I regret spending as much time as I did on games rather than learning music or such, but now I feel obliged to catch up to the lost time, and I have rerstrained myself to only multiplayer games. |

Just did a little calculating, 1/6 of my life has been spent playing Halo 3 since it came out, not including lobbies or other games. |

On average, yes. Some days little, in the summers, hours upon hours more. |

Jesus. I'm a Junior in high school and can barely get in an hour a night. Would you mind me asking what your situation is? |

Senior in high school who just now started caring about his grades. I literally haven't played at all during the week this semester so far which makes it that much more incredible. |

Wow, John - awesome find. I've been playing computer games for 39 years. My first was on a mainframe at the Lawrence Hall of Science in California, it was called Shoot the Wumpus and was completely character-based, and I don't mean character like a person, I mean it as X's and |'s on the screen.
With XBL and (more recently) WoW, I have found community as the video described. Some good, some bad - but the interactivity keeps me coming back. I use games as a release, a way to decompress from a very intense life as a high-level software enterpreneur. But I have been to 15 countries, and lived in Rome, Italy for three years (where my gaming claim to fame there was to play through Deus Ex three times, best game ever!). So a balance is what it's all about.
Find your creative genius - nurture it - let it grow, like Brand is doing with his writing with Josephine. And imagine - I would never have known either of them but for XBL. And when Brand goes through the terrible experiences he faced recently, the people on here, and I am honored to be part of that group, were one of the support systems he could use to get through it.
We all need more support systems. I know I do. So thank you for the video - put in words something I've known but never voiced - and that is a precious gift. |
